IND vs PAK ICC Men’s T20 World Cup – Head to Head History

IND vs PAK: Super 12 – Match 4, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Australia 2022 Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Sunday, 13:30pm

Rohit Sharma-led the Men in Blues will head into the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 later this month. This time, Team India is aiming to claim their first T20 World Cup title back in 2007 under MS Dhoni’s coaching.

T20 World Cup 2021 were a disappointment showing, where they fall out during the semifinals. This year Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue again to look for a much better showing in ICC T20 World Cup Australia 2022.

The venue for the 2022 T20I World Cup tournament is in Australia. Team India will play their opening match of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 on October 23 against the rivalry Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Group 2 includes India also with teams like Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh in their pool.

The last time the two teams go against each other was back in 2021 T20I World Cup, Pakistan had beaten their arch-rivals by 10 wickets in their Super 12 match in Dubai to register their first-ever win against their neighbours in World Cups.

Babar Azam hit an unbeaten 68, while Mohammad Rizwan smashed an unbeaten 79. Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled a terrific spell of 3/31 with three prized scalps of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli.

Pakistan will begin their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign against the Men in Blue on October 23. Babar Azam’s men lost in the finals of the recent Asia Cup 2022, going down to Sri Lanka by 23 runs.

After the disappointment of the 2021 T20 World Cup, where they lost in the semifinals, Pakistan would be hoping to turn things around in 2022 when they travel to Australia. Pakistan begins their campaign against India at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground and will go on to play four more league games.

The winners of the 2009 World T20(T20I World Cup) also reached the final in 2007, where they lost to India. They have entered the semifinals on three other occasions, including in 2010, 2012 and in 2021.

2007 ICC T20 World Cup South Africa

India Win Tied Group Match By A Bowl-Out And Final Against Pakistan

India met Pakistan twice in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup and on both occasions, India came on top. The first meeting was in Durban on the 14th of September. The match was tied with both the teams scoring 141 runs in the allotted 20 over.

Robin Uthappa who scored 50, and MS Dhoni who scored 33 were the top performers for India while Mohammed Asif who took 4/18 and Misbah-ul-Haq who scored 53 were the top performers for Pakistan.

Bowl out was used to decide the winner where the teams had five players hitting stumps and the one who scored more than the other wins. India hit the stumps in the initial three attempts while Pakistani players weren’t able to hit any. Bowl out is now replaced by super over to decide the tied games.

Pakistan again met with their arch-rivals in the finals and it was the Men in Blue, led by MS Dhoni who went on to win a nerve-wracking game by 5 runs. Gautam Gambhir top scored with 75 while Umar Gul picked 3/28. Misbah-ul-Haq’s 43 went in vain as RP Singh and Irfan Pathan took 3 wickets apiece.

2012 T20 World Cup Sri Lanka

India Beats Pakistan By 8 Wickets

India won by eight wickets against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the 2012 T20 World Cup but did not qualify for the semi-finals due to an inferior net run rate than Pakistan and Australia. Virat Kohli played a match-winning inning of 78 not out in the game against Pakistan and silenced all his critics who were blaming him for not performing in the big games.

L Balaji took 3/22 as Pakistan scored only 128 with none of their batters scoring above 30. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 78 as the Men in Blue won in the 17th over losing only 2 wickets.

The Men in Blue scored 119 runs losing only 4 wickets in the process in the 16th over.

2021 T20 World Cup UA Emirates & Oman

Pakistan Wins for The First Time In World Cups Against India By 10 Wickets

Unlike other occasions, Pakistan went on to smash India out of the park in all departments and registered their first win over India in any world cup. After a magnificent spell by Shaheen Shah Afridi restricting India to 151 runs, Pakistan did not even lose a wicket in the run chase and did it effortlessly. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam scored half-centuries in the process.

Virat Kohli’s half-century helped India recover from a disastrous start (India was reduced to 6/2) and post 151/7 against Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 match. Pakistan’s lanky pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi put the Men in Blue on the back foot from the start with the wickets of openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul off his first seven deliveries.

He finished with 3-31 after dismissing India’s top scorer, skipper Virat Kohli for 57 in a total of 151-7 in 20 overs. Babar Azam, along with fellow opener Mohammad Rizwan knocked off the target in 17.5 overs without losing a single wicket. Babar Azam hit 68 not out, while Mohammed Rizwan finished with an undefeated 79.
