IND vs PAK: Super 12 – Match 4, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Australia 2022 Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Sunday, 13:30pm
A former Australian all-rounder cricketer; Shane Watson, recently in an interview with the Times of India, he gave a compliment to the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s leadership qualities.
Watson faced Rohit in both of the Indian Premier League and international cricket, he talked about how to Rohit remain calm under pressure.
Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, India won the first T20 World Cup in 2007. The Indian team, captained by Rohit, will begin their campaign on October 23 against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super 12 stage of the 8th ICC T20 World Cup, which is currently being played in Australia.
Only the West Indies were able to win two championships, in 2012 and 2016. In the seven completed editions of the tournament to date, there have been as many as six different champions.
The Indian team entered the competition without the services of two key players: all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammed Shami, an accomplished bowler, will lead the Indian bowling attack without Bumrah. Other than Shami, India’s pace arsenal will include young Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Pandya.
Shane played for Chennai Super Kings in the late stages of his IPL career, has faced Rohit’s Mumbai Indians on several occasions in high-voltage clashes and believes Rohit has a lot of experience leading under pressure.
“Definitely. India certainly has the world-class talent for their team to win the T20 World Cup. Rohit is a seasoned captain. He is regarded as one of the best in the world. He has captained the Mumbai Indians and has enjoyed long-term success,” Shane Watson stated.
Shane Watson remarked, “Rohit knows how to handle and juggle captaincy while also batting as an opener. He is very familiar with Australian conditions, having played a lot of crickets there. The pace and bounce will undoubtedly suit his batting style.”
“My main worry is India’s bowling. They have good fast bowlers and world-class spinners, particularly Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal. My biggest concern is India’s defensive bowling ability, particularly at the end of the game (death overs). But India has a talented captain in Rohit, and as a leader, he will lead the team admirably,” Shane Watson said.
India’s opening encounter at the 2022 T20 World Cup is a highly anticipated encounter against Pakistan on Sunday.
