On Monday, October 17, during India’s first T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up match against Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane, Virat Kohli displayed his fielding prowess, turning the game around to assist his team to secure a dramatic six-run victory.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Australia’s captain Aaron Finch decided to field against India. Team India achieved 186 for 7 in 20 overs thanks to KL Rahul’s 57 runs off 33 balls and Suryakumar Yadav’s 50 off 33. Kane Richardson was Australia’s best bowler, taking four wickets while allowing just 30 runs to be scored.
Later, Australia had a significant lead in their pursuit of 187 thanks to Aaron Finch’s 76, but India’s bowlers and fielders combined to do an outstanding job to grab the victory.
Meanwhile, the match’s highlight was Virat Kohli’s brilliant throw to run-out dangerous man Tim David.
Virat Kohli’s superb throw forced Tim David to return to the hut as Josh Inglis tried to snag a single, but he mishit the ball and it went into the short leg region.
Virat Kohli ran to his right, picked up the ball in his right hand and hurled it while still sprinting. Later, when David realized he was short off his crease and kept walking towards the pavilion.
Sunil Gavaskar joked on air, “He’s worth his position in the squad for fielding alone.”
A ball earlier, Harshal had dismissed away well-positioned Aaron Finch (76 off 54) with a brilliant slower in-dipping yorker, bringing India back into the match.
In India’s 15-man team, Shami was chosen to replace the injured Jasprit Bumrah. Shami allowed only four runs in the last over while taking three wickets to assist India secure a slim victory.
From his three overs, Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned 2/20, while Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshal each claimed a wicket.
