West Indies Tour of Australia 2022: Australia vs West Indies,1st Match, Nov 30th, at the Adelaide Oval, Australia
During the 1970s and 1980s, West Indies dominated world cricket and regularly toured Australia as it was the most competitive rivalry of the time. Fans turned up in large numbers as the two powerhouses of world cricket would compete in the Australian Summer. However, the West Indies cricket team failed to keep up with the standards and is no longer the mighty power that it once was. This is the reason why the West Indies have played a handful of matches in Australia over the past decade and a half.
The Caribbean team is now back in Australia for a two-match test series against the Kangaroos. This will be the first time that the West Indies will play a red-ball series on Australian soil since 2016. Let us quickly preview the upcoming series that may have a key impact on the World Test Championship Table.
The first of the two test matches will take place in Perth between 30th November and 4th December 2022. On the other hand, the second match will be played between the 8th and 12th of December 2022. The second match will be a day-night fixture and will be played at the Adelaide Oval.
A fast, pacy and bouncy track is expected for the first Test at Perth. On the contrary, the wicket at Adelaide may suit the batsmen while offering some help to the spinners later in the game.
Australia’s Test Squad for West Indies Series:
Australian selectors announced a full-strength test side under the captaincy of Test Captain Pat Cummins.
Australia vs West Indies: Australia Squad
Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wk), Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner.
The 13-member squad looks well set ahead of the series. The batsmen are in good form, while the pack battery seems charged ahead of the all-important first Test. On paper, this Australian side looks too much for the West Indians, who are trying to find some form and momentum in the game’s longest format.
Australia vs West Indies: West Indies Squad
Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Jermaine Blackwood (vc), Nkrumah Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Roston Chase, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Anderson Phillip, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Devon Thomas
Kraigg Braithwaite was retained as the captain for the Australian tests. This is a young West Indian side that is trying to find feet at the highest level. They have talented young batsmen like Kyle Mayers, Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, and Shamarh Brooks. The fast-bowling department has a lot of potentials, but their seamers are slightly inexperienced. Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach, and Jayden Seales have the pace and bounce to trouble Australian Batsmen in their home conditions.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul is the son of former West Indies player and all-time great Shivnarine Chanderpaul. He will be under a great weight of expectations as he is likely to make his debut in the first Test.
Some important World Test Championship points are involved in this series, which is why Australia named such a strong squad for the series. Australia are clear favorites to win the series 2 – 0.
But West Indies may force an upset if their youngsters perform out of their skin.
