Bollywood News: Actor Akshay Kumar makes a suggestion that could aid in the Hindi film industry’s prosperity.
Numerous tentpole Hindi films, including Laal Singh Chaddha, directed by the perfectionist Aamir Khan, and the expensive Shamshera, have performed poorly at the box office. While many are attributing it to post-pandemic effects, others think the rise of southern film is to blame. Actor Akshay Kumar, though, does not adhere to either. Instead, he believes that a few adjustments could aid Bollywood in achieving success.
Ram Charan and Akshay Kumar took the dais at the 20th Hindustan Times Leadership Summit to discuss the most recent developments in the film business. Ram Charan, who has had great success with RRR, concurred with Akshay Kumar.
Even though the effect of Covid Pandemic has worn off, cinema goers have not quite come back to theatres for Bollywood movies. Several movies that were built up to be a blockbuster, failed miserably at the box office after its release.
Actor Akshay Kumar said, “Things have changed. The audience wants something different. It is our fault that they’re not coming to the theatres. We have to give them something they want.”
Stressing on the fact that the film industry needs to reinvent, Kumar said that he has been in the media and entertainment industry for over 30-years and over years, the tastes of the audience are changing.
Reinvent “We have to dismantle and rebuild, reinvent everything. We have to start all over again”, says Kumar.
The event’s theme was “We have to restart from scratch.” He said, “You have to do this if you want the people to come back to the theatre.” He emphasised that actors need to charge less money, that ticket costs need to be decreased, and that the total amount of money needed to make a movie needs to be reduced.
Akshay Kumar reiterated that the film industry needs to break down and rebuild itself in order to cater to the audience. Akshay Kumar and Ram Charan agreed that the answer to success lies in the film industry reinventing itself. They further said that the film industry also needs to erase the distinctions between regional cinema which people distinguish as Bollywood films and South movies. Kumar and Ram Charan said that the film industry needs to come together to better the quality of Indian cinema.
Akshay Kumar at the summit said that prices of making a movie and the subsequent ticketing needs to be reduced by at least 30-40%.
For moviegoers to return to theatres, he claimed that actors must charge lower fees, ticket costs must be lowered, and the whole cost of producing a film must be decreased. If you want the general population to return to the theatre, you must do this, he continued.
Akshay Kumar added that only when a film is multicast will it meet the criteria for being considered “epic.” “Look at Hollywood, the kind of flicks they’re delivering,” Kumar added, using the instance of Marvel films. People want to see the unity that occurs in Marvel movies where everyone comes together. They seek out new experiences and pleasure. A narrative and much more are what the audience demands. They want a return on their investment; they don’t just want to give their money “he stated. “Everyone needs to band together and make a major movie.”
Ram Charan concurred. “Going forward, you must rethink and redesign the entire game, starting with the writing and ending with the exhibitor. Everyone must contribute. A good subject and a good script eventually become unstoppable. People will visit the theatre, according to Charan.
Regarding Akshay’s acting career, the 55-year-old star of Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Bachchan Pandey, and Ram Setu released four films in 2022. At the box office, the majority of his 2022 releases either did poorly or did averagely. He is working on several projects, including the remake of Soorarai Pottru and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
