ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023: With the 2023 World Cup Around the Corner, New Zealand and India Turn Their Focus Towards ODI

ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, New Zealand and India Turn Their Focus Towards ODI

The time has now arrived when we get to watch multiple endless crickets focused mainly on the 50-over format. The three-match series involving India and New Zealand commencing on Friday will initial their build towards their participation in the ODI world cup that is less than 12 months away. Only behind Afghanistan in percentage points, New Zealand is sitting comfortably on the super league table with 11 wins in 15 matches. New Zealand is not too concerned about their recent loss to India as they are aware that the main reason for their defeat was the impact that Surya Kumar Yadav had on the match. It is less likely for a play to turn the tides of the match when 50 over format comes into talks. Additionally, they went to beat India in their previous tour of New Zealand in by 3-0 in ODI matches and 2-0 in test matches even though having lost the t20 series 5-0 before that.

Kane Williamson will be accompanied by Tom Latham in the middle order. In addition to that, Matt henry that has a compelling record again the rivals India is expected to aid in the attracting phase. Kane Williamson has high hopes after having missed the third ODI due to a medical appointment. Kane was seen struggling in the twenty-over format but having ample experience in the middle order and the tempo changes in ODI cricket are expected to aid his performance in the fifty-over format against India.

Being the hosts of the coming year’s world cup, India has already qualified as one of the playing teams. Shikhar Dhawan is the selected captain and will be accompanied by Shubam Gill as the opener to face the New Zealand bowlers. The spirits are high as the two openers have three centuries in the book out of eight in ODI cricket. Therefore, the absence of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Jasprit Bumrah will not affect the team immensely even though they are the more experienced and regular players of the team.

India has resorted to Deepak Hooda as their sixth bowling option but with the availability of Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur, India’s batting order is in good hands. These are players with ample skill and will surely give the New Zealand bowlers a tough time.

New Zealand opted for only five bowling options in the previous ODI and is expected to go for the same route again. If this is the case, then from the team that plays the third t20, it is expected that Adam Milne and Ish Sodhi would be replaced by the likes of Latham Henry who will also play the role of wicket keeping instead of Devon Conway.

Rishabh Pant will have to move down to the middle order with Gill and Dhawan coming out as the openers. Sanju Samson will have to once again sit out for the match after having missed the t20 matches if the management decides to pick Hooda.

Matches are scheduled to take place in Eden Park, located in Auckland which is also a popular venue for rugby matches. It comprises very short and straight boundaries. It will consequently affect the bowling style of both teams emphasizing more on delivering short and wide deliveries. There is a forecast for rain as of yet in addition to that, when we resort to the rate of the economy, the spinners are expected to have a slightly better performance when put in comparison with the fast bowlers.
