IND vs NZ: 3rd ODI, 2022: The ongoing series has been quite the target of some critics as they say India isn’t performing as it should be. After their defeat in the T20 World cup, experts thought that weak strategy and non-fitness of some players has led to their defeat. That is why talks were going on to change the captain, however, they were just rumors. The ongoing series with NZ is somewhat satisfactory, but they still are struggling to win the series. After the T20 world cup, India is now gearing up for the World Cup which will be probably held in 2023, so they have enough time to prepare and learn from their mistakes.
In addition to the above, New Zealand isn’t performing as they are supposed to. Maybe they lack teamwork or need to work on their fitness. In one of the matches, NZ failed to chase down a total of 192 runs with the bat. They failed to take the maximum benefit from powerplay, but lost wickets. Concerning the powerplay, NZ failed to perform in the T20 world cup. In almost all of the T20 matches, they scored below 40 in the power play and scored a few fours. Moreover, they also managed to hit only 2 sixes.
Experts say that Martin Guptil has to retire as he has done his part. Younger and more energetic players should come up now. Furthermore, they expect Devon Convey and Kane Williamson to perform even better to ensure the top order is as strong as a rock. The batting side of NZ seems to be struggling too because in a few games they failed to take wickets in the powerplay. Southee is to turn 34, and NZ needs to bring up the youngsters to step up the game.
Coming back to IND, they also need to do something about their batting performance. Rohit Sharma has failed to make remarkable runs in the T20 world cup and in recent games too. Players such as Surya Kumar Yadav should be brought up so that India can perform in all formats.
Currently, there has been a total of two T20 matches between the two teams. The first T20 international match between the two teams was abandoned, and no point was given to either team. IND managed to win the second T20 match, with Surya Kumar Yadav scoring 111 runs from just 51 Balls. Ishan Kishan scored 36 out of 31 balls. Furthermore, NZ took 6: wickets (Tim Southee:3, Lockie Ferguson:2, Sodhi, 1). Kane Williamson from the NZ side was the only one scoring above a half-century with 61 runs from 54 balls. IND’s bowling lineup was better in this match as Deepak, the fast bowler took 4: wickets for 10: runs, and Muhammad Siraj took 2: wickets conceiving just 24 runs. Spinners took no more than one to two wickets keeping in mind the pitch conditions.
After having a successful leader in the series, India aims to win the series. IND team needs to focus on scoring above 160 runs at least to win the next match comfortably. When runs above 160 are scored, the pressure builds up on the opposing team, which leads them to not perform. If NZ wins the toss and decides to bat, IND bowlers should restrict NZ to 150 or 160 runs to comfortably chase it. In addition to the previous, IND players should work on their fielding too. The better the fielding, the more runs they will stop, and it would be easier to win the game.
