So far in the world cup, we have seen some amazing games, with teams performing against the expectations of the crowd. The match between Australia and Tunisia was nonetheless entertaining and kept the crowd on their toes at all times.
In the initial moments of the game, Australia had the most possession, and the ball was mostly in their control. Tunisia was also a strong team, and they too had a couple of close calls, but none of the balls landed in the goal. Australia had a much positive start to the game, and taking advantage of that positive play, Mitchell Duke scored a goal in the 23rd minute of the game.
Graig Goodwin in the far right corner of the field flicked the ball perfectly and it landed right into the feet of Mitchell Duke. Duke was just a few meters from the opposing goal and as soon as the ball came to him he shot it with full power, and it managed to pass the goalkeeper and land into the goal.
Most of the crowd seemed to be Australians and so after Duke score the goal, a roar was heard, and the crowd stood up and cheered in joy. On the other hand, it silenced the Tunisian fans. Experts of the game said that if Australia had lost the game, it would have been difficult for them to avoid elimination.
A goal scored by Mitchell Duke will take them a step closer to winning the world cup and their hopes to survive and qualify for the last 16 teams will remain alive. After having a small chat with Duke after the game he said he was extremely happy he was selected to play at first for the Australian team and scoring a goal for the team was beyond his imagination, but he was hopeful.
He had promised his son that if he scored a goal, he would share the jubilant moment with him. Furthermore, he added that this was a moment he would remember for the rest of his life.
Moving on, it is also important to know that this was the first world cup game Australia has won since the 2010 World Cup. However, they almost lost this moment in the second half of the game. In the second half, Tunisia came back much stronger and had most of the possession.
Tunisia was desperate for an equalizer and also a win. Yousaf Msakni got the ball and the shot is directly at the goal with full power. It seemed as if the ball was about to pass the keeper and land into the goal, but a heroic dive by the keeper, Mathew Ryan, saved it.
However, Yousaf was about to score another one before this too. However, the defense from the Australians was superb, especially from the stoke city defender Harry Souttar who blocked Key goals.
In the initial stages of the world cup, AUS suffered a defeat to France, and this was their next win. In addition to the above, the next game in Australia will be with a tough opponent, Denmark.
Denmark has been a great opponent and has reached the finals and semi-finals multiple times. Moreover, they also consist of key players that can score goals and defend. However, qualification for further games is now in their own hands.
The match was filled with anxiety both on the field and off the field as the AUS were trying their best to defend and Tunisia, on the other hand, was looking for a goal to draw the game, but in the end, Australia successfully survived.
