New Zealand to turn things around as they face India in 1st ODI today

After losing three matches rain-marred T20I series by 1-0, it’s time for the 50 overs cricket as they face visitors India in the first ODI of the series, which is under the looming threat of rain; two power-houses will take on each other, hoping to put up a great show to entertain their fans.

This match is the fourth international game between these two sides since the conclusion of the 2022 T20I World Cup two weeks ago.

Irrespective of the time and relevancy of the series, the ICC ODI Super League’s top-of-the-table – India is the host of the next World Cup as well.

Unlike the three rain-marred T20I matches series, which got concluded recently, ODIs are of much importance for New Zealand as they’re placed sixth in the 50-over format.

Even though the kiwis will easily qualify for the following year’s World cup with their position in the table, they won’t want to leave it late and confirm their place in the series. When: November 25, Friday,  2:30 PM Local Time (5:00 AM IST) Where: Eden Park, Auckland What to expect :

Heavy rainfall is expected on Tuesday, three days before the game, so the outfield will be significantly wet. On match day, a lot of rain isn’t likely by their weather department; we can witness cloudy situations that day.

Team News:

New Zealand :

Martin Guptill and Trent Boult weren’t included in the Kiwi’s squad for the ODIs, while Kane Williamson, the kiwi captain, is ready to be featured after missing the last (3rd) T20I due to a pre-planned medical appointment.

It is worth knowing that Kane Williamson has played only six 50-over matches since the previous World Cup. Moreover, Tim Southee will be looking to become the fifth Kiwi bowler to make a double century of ODI wickets, and in case of a five-for, he will see himself above Chris Cairns (201 wickets) and Chris Harris (203 wickets) to No. 3.Probable XI :

Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson (C), Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (Wk), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson

India :

With the absence of many senior players in the one-dayers, Shikhar Dhawan is all set to lead the Indian side, which, without the services of veteran players, is almost like a second-string Indian side in the 3-match series.

Shikhar Dhawan is set to open the innings with Shubman Gill, the due with three century stands in eight ODI matches.

Shikhar Dhawan (C), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (Wk), Deepak Hooda, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal

What they said:

Ahead of the first ODI, Kane Williamson was asked about leaving out Martin Guptill from the squad after the batter was an integral part o the kiwi’s squad for many years.

”He absolutely will be missed, but he is not retired, so there’s a lot to keep working through over the next period to get a real feel for how the picture looks.” Kane Williamson said.

On the other hand, Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan tried to put some light on his team’s recent form as he said :

”We guys have been performing well for some time. At the same time, talking about myself, I have to keep performing. I know till the time I perform, it would be good for me. It keeps me on my toes and hungry.” – Shikhar Dhawan.
