Germany vs Costa Rica 4-2, Germany defeat Costa Rica but still fail out the Last Round of 16 World Cup 2022
Germany was considered the favorite of most football experts. It is because Germany had some of the top players playing for them. Their defense was strong along with their ability to score goals and goals under pressure. Although they have won the world cup multiple times, yesterday wasn’t just their day. They have been ruled out of the world cup! Experts of the game say that if the germans had not drawn their last game, they had a very high chance to qualify for the quarter-finals, but it seems luck couldn’t shine any magic in this specific tournament.
They have departed from the world cup and will most probably head home. They have been eliminated due to the goal difference policy. If they had scored more goals in the previous matches, the situation would have been quite different today. However, the win of Japan over Spain further contributed to their loss. If japan had lost to Spain, the Germans would still have had a very high chance of reaching the quarterfinals and making their way toward the semi-finals.
However, it gets even more intense as Japan and Spain were 1 to 1 in the ending parts of the game, but an uncertain goal was scored by the Japanese. The officials thought that the ball was out of play and the goal wasn’t counted. However, after the VAR took place, the decision was reversed and the Japanese team was given their well-deserved goal.
The German team entered the football ground with the aim of a score as many goals as possible and their strategy somewhat worked as they managed to score 4 goals. In the initial stages of the game, the german team was in full control and had the ball almost at all times. They immediately switched to an attacking stance and started aiming to land the ball in the opponent’s goalpost. It worked as Germany scored a goal and took the lead when Serge Gnarby scored a remarkable header in the 10th minute of the game.
However, Costa Rica did come with a comeback as they couldn’t risk losing to the Germans too. Conceiving too many goals and losing the game proved disastrous for Costa Rica too because they are on thin ice and may also be ruled out of the world cup. Costa Rica scored in the second half when Yeltsin Tejeda equalized the scores by flicking the ball passed to him by Manuel Neuer. If it was a draw, then Costa Rica would have gone with Japan to the qualifying round.
In the second half, it almost seemed as if the German team had lost the motivation to win and just kept defending their goals. The Costa Rica team remained clearly in control and aimed to score another one. It would have been another surprising night in the history of football if Costa Rica would have won the game over the germans.
The next goal was scored by Kai Havertz, the Costa Rica attacker. However, the German team made an extraordinary comeback by scoring two back-to-back goals and making the scoreboard 4,0. It will be another back-to-back WorldCup setback for them as they are exiting their group. However, it seemed as if their motivation was shattered in their first game against Japan.
They faced a humiliating defeat by the Japanese team as they scored two goals against the german team and the german team only managed to score a single goal against them. Moreover, some of their players played exceptionally well.
