ICC World Test Championship 2023 Potential Finalists & Prediction:

ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 Prediction & Potential Finalists: the World Test Champion is entering a busy period of its last six months in which many teams are lined up for their upcoming red-ball competitions and are eyeing to play the final at The Oval in June 2023.

Currently, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and India are in the top four positions in the World Test Championship table. As only the top two teams will play the final, the battle is getting intense with the approaching last.

In this article, we’re going to look at the top six teams in the World Test Championship standings and how they can qualify for the final.

1. Australia:

With 96 points and 72.73 percentage, top-ranked at the World Test Championship, Australia has eight tests remaining to play in WTC 2021-23, with one against West Indies at home.

Three tests against South Africa again at home and then an away four test match series against India, which will be their biggest challenge as India’s lost its last test series at home against England in 2012, but it won’t worry much as the equation is simple for them.

They should defeat West Indies in the second test and win two out of three matches against South Africa at home, and their position in the final will be secure if they avoid a heavy defeat against India.

If we make it simpler for you, if Australia beats Windies by 2-0, South Africa by 2-1 and loses against India by 2-1, they’ll end up with a 64.91-win percentage, which will be enough to play the finale.

2. South Africa:

Second-ranked South Africa has a bright chance to play the final next year with 72 points and a win percentage of 60. They have five test matches left to play in their World Test Championship campaign, three against Australia away and two against West Indies at home.

They have a tough challenge in a series against Australia, but if any team can beat the Aussies in their conditions, it’s them. They should at least win one and draw another to make the conditions suitable for them. After that, they’ll face West Indies for two matches at home and try to win both of those games to compensate for any losses they’ll suffer against Australia.

3. Sri Lanka:

Lankans currently sit third in WTC standings with 64 points win percentage of 53.33 and have two matches left to play in their World Test Championship 2021-23 campaign against New Zealand a way which will be a challenging tour for them, given the strength of Kiwis.

There are chances that despite their current good position, they won’t be able to make it to finals as other teams have two series left to play but if they manage to beat Kiwis by 2-0 and Pakistan loses against England and India and South Africa loses against Australia.

4. India:

India currently has 75 points, a 52.08-win percentage, and six test matches to play in their World Test Championship 2021-23 schedule. Two against Bangladesh away and four against Australia at home.

Losses in South Africa last year damaged their hopes of playing the final, but the situation is clear for team blue now. First, they should try to win both of their games against Bangladesh and then try to win as many matches as they can against the Aussies.

Avoid any defeat against them. If they win all their six remaining games, they’ll end up with 68.05, which will be enough to qualify for the final.

5. Pakistan:

Pakistan, with 56 points and a win average of 46.67, has four more tests to play in World Test Championship 2021-2023. Two tests against England at home and then the same number of test matches against New Zealand early next year at home.

Their loss against England at Rawalpindi has caused massive damage in their hopes of qualifying for the final, as they’ll have to win all of their remaining four test matches.

Now to finish with a percentage of 61.90, which is undoubtedly a challenging task given the strength of their opponents.

6. West Indies:

With 54 points and a win, an average of 45, West Indies sits sixth at the World Test Championship table. It has three matches to play in World Test Championship 2021-23, one against Australia away and two against South Africa, too away.

Their loss in the first test at Perth ended their hope to play the final, as even if they win their three remaining matches, they’ll finish with a 57.69-win percentage, which may not be enough to qualify for the final.
