India are touring Bangladesh for ODI and Test Match series. The ODI series started on Sunday, 4th of December, 2022. And a super Sunday it was as it was the closest ever match between Bangladesh and India.
Over the years, India has been the stronger and more dominant of the two sides but Bangladesh have improved a lot recently and posed a serious challenge. An exciting contest was expected between the two sides, with the balance tilting in India’s favour because of all the big names.
IND vs BAN: With Bangladesh’s regular ODI captain, Tamim Iqbal out due to injury, Litton Das stepped up to captain. The stand-in captain won the toss and invited India to bat first.
IND vs BAN: India had their big names back with Rohit Sharma resuming duties as the captain while Virat Kohli returning after the rest from New Zealand tour. Kuldeep Sen was handed a debut cap by India while KL Rahul kept wickets in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

As it Happened:
IND vs BAN – 1st ODI:
The Indian openers walked out to bat with the conditions looking a little challenging for the batters due to slow nature of the pitch. Shikhar Dhawan was the first opener to get out when he tried reverse sweeping Mehidy Hasan Miraz and ended up getting bowled. Shakib UL Hasan dismissed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the same over to rock India’s effort.
KL Rahul was the only batter to offer resistance as he made a gritty 73 runs on 70 balls. Only support he received was from Shreyas Iyer, who made 24 and Sundar, who made 19. India were eventually all-out for 186 runs. Shakib UL Hasan took 5 wickets while Ebadat Hossain had 4 scalps.
Bangladesh’s run chase:
Bangladesh’s run chase started in a horrible fashion as they lost a wicket of the first ball. Shanto nicked the first ball to slip. The rest of the powerplay was a relatively quiet one for Bangladesh as they scored at nearly 3 runs per over. Anamul Haq got out for 14. Bangladesh were 26-2 at that moment. Shakib UL Hasan and Litton Das had a good partnership before Litton Das got out for 41.
Bangladesh continued to lost wickets after that as their lower middle order crumbled against aggressive Indian bowling. From 72-2 and 128-4, they were reduced to 136-9. With another 51 runs needed to win, there was no way Bangladesh could win from there. But, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rehman somehow held their nerves. Mehdi made 38 from 39 balls while Mustafiz got 10 from 11 balls to take Bangladesh home.
Bangladesh won one of the most thrilling of matches. Mehedi Hasan Miraz was judged man of the match.
