Pakistan Cricket New Chairman; Najam Sethi: A disappointing news came from Pakistan Cricket as Ramiz Raja was ousted as the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). In addition to Ramiz Raja’s removal from the chairmanship, the constitution of Pakistan Cricket Board has also been revoked. PCB will now switch back to the 2014’s constitution, which was focused around the idea of multiple tiers of departmental cricket.
The move is more of a political one as the new prime minister chose to appoint his wing’s Najam Aziz Sethi as the chairman of Pakistan Cricket. Earlier, Najam Sethi has served as the PCB chairman in 2014. He remained a central member in the Pakistan Cricket Board till 2018.
Sethi was removed by the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the World Cup winning captain Imran Khan as he considered Sethi’s appointment a political move.
Pakistan Cricket had done well under Ramiz Raja’s premiership and his removal from the chair is a heartbreaking and disturbing news for the Pakistan Cricket fans. Making such moves on the basis of political alliances and ideologies does not make any sense at all.
Pakistan Cricket was in a state in 2021 as they had lost multiple series and lacked a strong core group. Imran Khan was serving as the Prime Minister of Pakistan at that time. On the basis of his vision, he chose to appoint his teammate and former Pakistan Captain Ramiz Raja as the chairman of PCB. The decision was welcomed by all as a cricketer had been given the role of leading the cricket board for the first time.
In addition to doing so, Imran Khan also encouraged and promoted the idea of regional cricket over departmental cricket. Despite receiving opposition and criticism, he went ahead with his plans and changed the overall structure of Pakistan cricket.
Pakistan cricket team recently lost the series against England 3-0, that too at home. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his allies used that as a reason to remove Ramiz Raja who did so well as the chairman of PCB. The only reason behind Raja’s removal is that he was appointed by the political opponent of Shehbaz Sharif.
Ramiz was a prominent figure in the cricketing world and well-respected by all. The decision to remove him has attracted severe criticism from the fans and cricketing experts. His vision led to the expansion of Pakistan cricket, the initiation of Pakistan Junior League.
He also promoted cricket at the grassroots level and was personally involved in a number of beneficial deals for Pakistan Cricket.
This was perhaps the first time when Pakistan Cricket received the support and backing from the fans as the whole nation united to support the team. Pakistan cricket has derailed once again.
Thank you, Ramiz Raja, for your visionary services!
