West Indies and Zimbabwe (WI vs ZIM) do not play a lot of cricket generally. However, a pleasant news came for the fans from both the countries as West Indies’ tour of Zimbabwe was announced yesterday.
As per the news, West Indies will tour Zimbabwe for two test matches. Both the matches are scheduled to take place in Bulawayo. Queens Sports Park will host both the test matches.
The first test match will take place between 4th and 8th February 2023. This will be followed by a three-day break. The second test match will start on 12th February with the tour scheduled to end on 16th February 2023.
Prior to the two test matches, the West Indian team will also play a warm-up match against the local team.
The tour will be crucial for both the sides as they have not played a lot of cricket in recent times. West Indies are going through a tough phase where they have young and talented players. However, the team lacks the experience and has performed poorly in recent times.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe have shown glimpses of promise at the ICC World T20, where they managed to beat Pakistan by 1 run and fought well against Bangladesh.

The tour of Australia was a disastrous one for the Caribbean crew. West Indies lost all the T20 matches against Australia. This was followed by a first round exit from the T20 World Cup. They failed to qualify for the group stages as they lost against Scotland and Ireland.
This was followed by a test series against Australia in Australia. West Indies lost both the test matches by huge margins. However, there were few silver linings as their young players performed well and gave the glimpses of the potential they have.
It is difficult to predict the end result of the series right now since it is still quite some time away. However, the general trend and form can be used to take a guess about the matches between West Indies and Zimbabwe.
West Indies will have the better chance to win the test series as they have express pace in the form of Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach. Jason Holder is a valuable contributor to the team as well.
In the batting department, Tagenarine Chanderpaul (son of the former West Indies batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul) showed grit and promise in the series against Australia. Similarly, Kraigg Brathwaite and Jermaine Blackwood have also been around for quite some time.
The all-rounder Roston Chase will be crucial in the series as the ball is expected to turn in the Zimbabwean conditions. West Indies have a good side that should win against Zimbabwe. However, they will have to perform well as a team, if they actually want the results to go their way.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe have some good players in Sikander Raza, Sean Williams, Ryan Burl, and Blessing Muzarrabani. They certainly can give West Indies a tough time in their home conditions.
