India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I 2023: After winning a close contest against Sri Lanka two days ago, Indian cricket team arrived in Pune for the second T20I match of the Series. History favoured India as Hardik Pandya and his boys geared up for the second T20I game against Sri Lanka.
IND vs SL 2023 First T20I – Toss:
Over the years, team batting first have done pretty well at Pune. It is a bat-first pitch that allows the batters to score big totals. However, Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first. The decision showed the mentality that the Indian team is carrying right now. They want to take the risks and make it challenging.
Dasusn Shanaka looked pretty happy with the decision as he wanted to bat first.
IND vs SL 2023 First T20I – Playing XI:
Sri Lanka named an unchanged XI from the first T20I as they continued with the same combination.

IND vs SL 2023 First T20I – Playing XI:
India made two changes to their team from the first T20I. Arshdeep Singh came back to the Indian team after missing out in the first T20I. The other change was a forced one as Sanju Samson was ruled out of the series due to injury scare. Rahul Tripathi made his debut for India in his place.

IND vs SL 2023 First T20I – As it happened:
Sri Lanka started off well in their innings as the two openers went in with all guns blazing. Mendis was the aggressor as he smashed Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground.
On the other hand, Pathum Nissanka never really got going as he rarely found the middle of his blade. The two openers added 80 runs together in 8 overs. Axar Patel dismissed Kusal Mendis for 52 rusn in 31 balls. From thereon, there were few quick cameos that took Sri Lanka to 206/6.
Charith Asalanaka took the responsibility in the middle overs as he scored a quickfire 37 runs in only 19 balls. Towards the end of the innings, it was all about Dasun Shanaka who made 56 runs in 22 balls, while scoring 20 runs in the last over.
Sri Lanka made 78 runs in the final 5 overs, with 68 runs coming in the last 4.
IND vs SL 2023 First T20I – India’s run chase:
India’s chase started in a disappointing manner as they lost quick wickets early on. Kishan mad only 2 runs, Gill made 5, Tripathi scored 5 and Hardik got out for 12.
India was 21/3 and 34/4. Deepak Hooda also got out for 9 runs, leaving India in deep trouble at 57/5 in the 10th over. The required rate was approaching 15 runs per over as Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav got together.
The two added 91 runs in 40 balls to give India some hope. Surya made 51 runs in 36 balls while Axar scored 65 runs in only 31 balls. However, India fell short of the target as they finished at 190/8 in 20 overs.
