A troubling and worrying news came from India on Friday, as Indian Cricketer Rishabh Pant sustained some serious injury in a car crash. Rishabh was going back to his hometown from Delhi in the early hours of Friday, when his car crashed into the road dividers. The accident was so severe that the car caught fire and was reduced to scrap. Rishabh was rescued by the local people and taken to hospital.
Rishabh is stable now. However, he will remain side-lined from Cricket for an extended period of time.
In the early hours of Friday morning, Rishabh’s car crashed into the road divider on the highway from Delhi to his hometown. Resultantly, the car caught fire immediately. A bus passed by and saw the accident. The bus driver Sushil Kumar and the bus conductor Paramjit stopped the bus and ran to Rishabh’s rescue. Other people also joined the effort as Rishabh was rescued and taken to a hospital in an ambulance.
The driver spoke to media after the incident. Here is what the driver said about Rishabh Pant’s accident:
“I work as a driver for Haryana Roadways at the Panipat depot,” Kumar said to Hindustan Times. “At 4.25 a.m., our bus departed Haridwar. I was on my way when I observed a fast-moving automobile lose its balance and crash into the divider. Following the collision, the automobile landed on the other side of the road, which leads to Delhi.
I instantly hit the brakes after watching the automobile scream into the second lane of the road. Because the car had already taken fire, I and the conductor hurried to pull him out. The fire had already begun by then. Then three other people ran up and brought him to safety.
“I dialled the National Highway, but no one answered. The operator ordered an ambulance when I dialled 911. We kept asking him whether he was all right. I offered him some water. He presented himself as Rishabh Pant after reorganising. I don’t follow cricket hence I didn’t know who he was but my conductor [Paramjit] then informed me ‘Sushil… he is an India cricketer’.”
He gave us his mother’s phone number. We attempted to reach her, but her cellphone was off. It took 15 minutes for the ambulance to arrive and we took him to hospital… I asked if there was anyone else in the car. He said that there was not one.”
Rishabh Pant was examined at the hospital. There are scars on his back and legs. However, his MRI scans showed that he was stable. Thankfully, Rishabh is fine now and on his way towards recovery.
All the Indian cricketers, fans, and supporters offered best wishes and a speedy recovery to the star batsman. They all want to see him playing for Indian Cricket Team very soon.
India’s series against Sri Lanka will start from Tuesday. This will be followed by New Zealand’s tour of India. However, Rishabh Pant was not part of any of these series as he was not included in the squads. Instead, Rishabh Pant was expected to go to NCA for strength and conditioning, ahead of the all-important test series against Australia.
Rishabh Pant is expected to miss the test series against Australia and the current edition of IPL. Fans would love to see him in action as soon as possible but a return to International Cricket looks unlikely right now.
Let’s hope that Rishabh recovers quickly!
