The upcoming cricket world Cup that will be held in 2023 has been full of speculations from the experts as to which team will qualify and which teams will be left out. So far the defending champions, England and the Indian cricket team will play in the tournament for sure, but we can’t say anything about the other teams. Apart from these two teams, there are some other teams too that have qualified. Cricket World Cup 2023 Who will qualify?
These teams are Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. But how have they qualified? These teams have gone through the Super league and have won 11 games each, hence they have qualified for the World Cup tournament. After this, it leaves just one spot which is currently occupied by the West Indies team which remained for the super league.
Other than that, two places have to fill too by the best two sides that will be a result of a tournament held in Zimbabwe in June and July. This leaves us with Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Ireland to snatch the last place. Furthermore, it leaves Zimbabwe and Netherlands out of the World Cup tournament.
Let us talk a little about the west indies. The west indies team has been in the finals and won the world cup in the years 1975 and 1979. They have played a total of 24 games out of which they have won just 9 and hence they now have a total of 88 points. Things are not great for the west indies team because they have no other games to play and so they have a very high chance to be ousted by Ireland, South Africa, or Sri Lanka. For the west indies to qualify, Sri Lanka will have to lose their series with New Zealand that is initiated from Monday.
Let us now talk about the South African team. The South African team has also been on the brink, but since they have easy games ahead with the Netherlands, they have a high chance that they will qualify for the world cup. If South Africa wins both of these matches, they will be 8th in the position table, but that will happen only if Sri Lanka doesn’t win all three matches from New Zealand.
Sri Lanka have won the world cup in 1996, but they need to win all three matches against a strong team New Zealand which will take them to the eighth spot. Currently, Pakistan has a 3-match day International series with Afghanistan. Two matches have been conducted and Afghanistan has won both of them. It wasn’t a surprise to many experts of the game because Pakistan has been trying its luck with a newer young player in the team and have rested the star players Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan.
The total made by Pakistan in both matches has not gone above 150 which is a matter of concern for the team management because players such as Saim and other have scored massive runs in the Pakistan Super League but failed to do so in Sharjah against Afghanistan.
As for the Irish team, they need to win the upcoming matches that will be against Bangladesh. Moreover, they will also have to play games against England. However, these will also not be enough for the Irish team to qualify for the world cup because they have not managed to win most of the games they have played against teams.
Conclusively, the teams who do not make it will still have another chance to come to India for the finals and the Netherlands is already on the run for it. The experts and analysts of the game say that it will be a very competitive world cup because most of the teams such as Pakistan, India, and Australia have improved their game.
