Faf du Plessis has a chance to come back in South Africa’s T20I team against West Indies, but the discussion will continue with white ball coach Rob Walter.
Coach Rob Walter and Faf du Plessis have a debate about the chance of South Africa’s cricket team captain to come back in the international T20 against West Indies. But the schedule for the South Africa cricket team and their tough challenges made it complex for Faf du Plessis to return to the national squad.
South Africa cricket has introduced a new schedule and contracts this month, and the plan for a single contract gives hope to Faf du Plessis to return to the national squad in the upcoming T20 World cup in 2024.
South Africa Cricket Board Director expressed his thoughts. He said that Rob Walter is very cooperative and prefers to talk with freelance players from South Africa. He said that the purpose of the new contract is to ensure the response of active players, but still, there are new things to introduce on their cricket field.
He said we are trying to put in our best effort and playing on the front foot. Many players are bounded to all three formats of Cricket. We have only a few white balls and red ball players overall.
For upcoming T20 and ODI tournaments, we will make contracts with our players for T20, ODI and test series in the coming months.
Faf du Plessis announced his retirement from Test Cricket in February 2021, but he is still available for the test cricket series as a white ball player. He didn’t get a chance in any series later in 2021 and 2022. Still, all over the world, there are many tournaments, but he didn’t get a chance to play.
He has a good record in all cricket tournaments, including PSL, BPL, IPL, CPL and SA20. He scored 2747 runs at an average strike rate of 33.91. His overall average playing rate is 31.18, but he scored with a higher run rate in all these tournaments. Also, he scored four hundred in T20Is.
Faf du Plessis is having a strong conversation with South Africa Cricket Board, but still, Mapitsang and Patrick Moroney do not agree. Du Plessis is still struggling for his comeback in the T20I world cup in the coming year. He also discussed the matter with the selection panel.
Nkwe said that du Plessis and the selection panel had a conversation before the coming T20 World Cup, but this meeting ended without any conclusion. He said that many players are interested in playing World cup, and they are to see this engagement for the Cricket but cannot make any final decision now. They are trying to do their best efforts for the selection of the coming World cup team.
When De Villiers retired in 2018, he called Faf du Plessis and South Africa’s all-format skipper. He requested to play ODI World Cup in 2019. But he did not accept the request and said they had to play at least two ODI tournaments out of ten to be eligible for the World Cup 2019.
De Villiers didn’t accept the decision due to schedule and financial crises, but South Africa Cricket has not solved this financial and scheduling problem. They pay a player without a contract fee if he participates in the game. Now they are looking for a platform where the players get more income.
Nkwe said that they suggested short-term deals with players in which players could choose their national duty and get more income and benefits. The matter is under discussion, and there is hope for du Plessis to participate in the national game against West Indies.
