R Ashwin Bowling Record Takes No.1 Spot in Latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings – Cricket fans around the world are eagerly following the latest ICC Test rankings, which have seen significant shifts in recent updates. One of the biggest changes has been the replacement of England’s James Anderson by India’s R Ashwin as the No. 1 bowler in the rankings.
Ashwin’s rise to the top spot was largely due to his impressive performance in the second Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Delhi, where he took six wickets. He now has the opportunity to extend his lead at the top in the remaining two Tests of the series.
Anderson had displaced Australia’s Pat Cummins as the top-ranked bowler on February 22, after taking seven wickets in the first Test against New Zealand. At 40 years old, he became the oldest top-ranked bowler since Australian legspinner Clarrie Grimmett in 1936. However, Anderson’s three-wicket haul in the second Test against New Zealand was insufficient to hold off Ashwin’s surge up the charts.
This latest update has also seen some significant movements among other bowlers in the rankings. India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi have each moved up one spot to fourth and fifth, respectively, despite not having played a Test since July last year. This is because England’s Ollie Robinson has dropped down two spots to No. 6.
Meanwhile, India’s left-arm spinning allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has moved up to eighth in the Test bowling rankings following his Player-of-the-Match performance in the Delhi Test against Australia. Jadeja took 10 wickets and scored 26 runs in that game, helping India secure an impressive victory. He also leads the Test rankings for allrounders, with Ashwin in second place.
England’s Joe Root has also made significant gains in the rankings, moving up to eighth in the allrounder’s rankings and third in the rankings for batters. Root scored 153* and 95 in the Wellington Test last week, helping England to a victory over New Zealand. Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith are currently ranked first and second, respectively, among Test batters.
Another player who has made a significant impact in the rankings is England’s Harry Brook. Despite having played in only six Tests, Brook has already jumped to 16th place among batters, on par with Virat Kohli. Brook has scored an impressive 809 runs in ten innings at a strike rate of 98.77.
Overall, the latest ICC Test rankings show that there is a lot of movement and competition among players from around the world. Fans are eagerly watching to see how things will continue to change in the coming weeks and months, as more matches are played and more players have the opportunity to showcase their skills on the pitch.
