T20 History Highest Score – South Africa Highest Total in T20 History: SA Cricket’s epic chase against West Indies in the second T20I of the tour played at SuperSport Park was one of the most exciting matches in T20I history. The game saw the most runs ever scored in a T20 international and the highest successful chase in a T20I.
In a run-fest on a flat pitch, South Africa successfully chased down 259 runs, scoring 259/4 in just 18.5 overs, winning the match by six wickets with seven balls to spare.
South Africa’s victory was largely due to Quinton de Kock’s scintillating 43-ball hundred, his first in the format. He smashed nine fours and eight sixes, scoring 100 runs at a strike rate of 232.56.
His innings came in the second half of a high-scoring game, which saw a record-breaking total of 517 runs being scored. His knock powered South Africa to the target with relative ease, and in the process, he smashed the joint sixth-fastest T20I hundred in the format’s history.
West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first in what was expected to be a run-fest. The team got off to a great start with openers Kyle Mayers and Johnson Charles putting on a spectacular exhibition of power-hitting that dismantled the South African attack.
Charles was responsible for 11 of the 35 sixes that were hit in the match. He smashed his way to his century off just 39 balls, which was the joint second-fastest T20I hundred and the fastest by a West Indian in the format.
Mayers followed with a 24-ball fifty, and together, they shared a 135-run partnership for the second wicket, which came off just 58 balls.
Despite West Indies’ spectacular batting display, South Africa managed to restrict them to 258/5 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to Marco Jansen, who took three wickets for 52 runs. The West Indies team’s discipline was poor, with bowlers struggling to hit their lengths, which resulted in them conceding 10 wides and a no-ball. In contrast, South Africa’s bowlers bowled only four wides.
South Africa’s chase got off to a solid start, with de Kock and Hendricks putting on a 118-run partnership for the opening wicket. Reeza Hendricks scored 68 runs off just 34 balls, which included six fours and four sixes.
After his dismissal, de Kock continued to dominate the West Indies bowling attack, and with the help of Rassie van der Dussen, he took South Africa past the target with seven balls to spare.
The high-scoring match was a testament to the quality of batsmen in both teams, and it was a treat for cricket fans all over the world.
The match saw a total of 35 sixes, which was the most in a T20I, and two fewer than the most in any T20 match. It was also the first time that a team had successfully chased down a total of more than 250 in a T20I.
The third and final T20I of the series will be played at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, and it promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams looking to clinch the series. The South African team will take confidence from their record-breaking chase, while West Indies will be looking to bounce back and take the series.
T20 cricket has brought a new level of excitement to the game. The format is designed to encourage aggressive and attacking play, with batsmen trying to score as many runs as possible in the shortest amount of time.
This has resulted in an increase in the number of boundaries and sixes being hit, which has made the game more thrilling to watch.
