RCB vs KKR 2023: Royal Challengers Bangalore Lose Against Kolkata Knight Riders: The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a convincing 81-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ninth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at Eden Gardens on April 6, 2023.
Shardul Thakur played a crucial role in this win by scoring a blistering knock of 68 off 29 balls, which included five fours and six sixes. He came to bat when KKR were struggling at 89/5 and powered them to a challenging total of 204/7.
Thakur’s innings was the second-highest score by a No. 7 batsman in IPL history, and his knock helped KKR set the highest total for a team that was five down for less than 100 runs.
The small boundaries and quick outfield at Eden Gardens were always going to make it tough for RCB to defend the total, and their task became even more challenging as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
RCB’s chase began well, with Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli getting off to a flyer. However, the introduction of the mystery spinners, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, turned the game in KKR’s favour.
Narine and Chakravarthy took four and three wickets, respectively, to derail RCB’s chase and restrict them to just 123 runs.
Earlier in the game, KKR had won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost opener Venkatesh Iyer early in the innings, as David Willey trapped him LBW with a well-directed in-swinging delivery.
Willey then accounted for Mandeep Singh with a wobble-seam delivery that kissed the off-stump, putting him on a hat-trick. However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a crucial knock of 57 off 42 balls to keep KKR’s innings going.
Gurbaz’s knock was instrumental in KKR reaching a respectable total, as he held the innings together in the first ten overs. However, he was dismissed by Karn Sharma in the 12th over, and it seemed like KKR’s innings was going to unravel. That is when Shardul Thakur took over and played a magnificent knock that turned the game in KKR’s favour.
The victory was crucial for KKR, who had lost their opening match of the tournament. It was a comprehensive win that would give them a lot of confidence going forward in the tournament. RCB, on the other hand, would be disappointed with their performance and will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next game.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, or RCB, is a team that has always been considered one of the most exciting franchises in the Indian Premier League. With some of the biggest names in world cricket in their ranks, RCB has always had the potential to go all the way in the tournament. However, they have never won the IPL trophy, despite reaching the finals three times.
This season, RCB started their campaign with a bang, winning their opening match against the Mumbai Indians. However, in their second match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, they suffered a crushing defeat, failing to chase down a target of 205.
Despite the loss, RCB still have a strong squad that can compete with any team in the league. With a batting lineup that includes the likes of Virat Kohli, FAF du Plesis, and Glenn Maxwell, they have the firepower to post big scores and chase down any target.
In conclusion, KKR’s convincing victory over RCB in the IPL was a result of a brilliant innings by Shardul Thakur, backed by some excellent bowling by Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. The win would give KKR a lot of confidence, while RCB will need to bounce back quickly from this defeat.
