Sunrisers Hyderabad did the impossible 41 runs in the last two overs | Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals Match Report IPL 2023

Sunrisers Hyderabad did the impossible 41 runs in the last two overs. The highly anticipated clash between the Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad took place in Jaipur on May 7th, 2023. The excitement was palpable as fans eagerly awaited what was sure to be a thrilling match.

As the teams took to the field, the atmosphere was electric. The crowd roared as the coin toss took place, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad winning and choosing to bowl first. This decision would prove to be a wise one.

The Rajasthan Royals started strong, with opening batsmen Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler putting on a rollicking 138-run stand. Buttler was in scintillating form, scoring 95 off just 59 deliveries, while Samson provided excellent support with an unbeaten 66 off 38 balls.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad were struggling to keep the Royals’ scoring rate in check, with the asking rate rising quickly. However, the Royals were unable to fully capitalize on their excellent start due to some missed opportunities.

The Sunrisers dropped Mayank Agarwal and Harry Brook early on, giving the Royals a chance to build a big total. However, the Royals failed to take advantage of these opportunities, and the Sunrisers were able to make a comeback.

Despite some brilliant bowling from Yuzvendra Chahal, who took 4 wickets for just 29 runs, the Sunrisers were able to restrict the Royals to 214/2 in their 20 overs.

As the Sunrisers began their chase, it quickly became clear that this was going to be a close match. The Sunrisers started off at a brisk pace, with Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma hitting some early boundaries. However, they lost Anmolpreet in the sixth over when he was caught off a sweep by Chahal.

At the end of the powerplay, the Sunrisers were 52/1 and the asking rate had already climbed above 12 runs per over. However, Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek started to find the boundary when it mattered most.

With 142 runs needed from 11 overs, Tripathi and Abhishek started hitting some big shots. Tripathi hit a huge six off M Ashwin and Abhishek hit two sixes off both Ashwins. The Royals were feeling the pressure and were unable to take wickets.

With the Sunrisers needing 98 runs off 42 balls, the Royals turned to M Ashwin once again. Despite conceding 23 runs in his first two overs, Samson gave him a third over. This decision proved costly, as Abhishek hit him for another six before getting caught at short third trying to hit another big shot.

With the Sunrisers needing 57 runs off 24 balls, Tripathi got a life when Samson dropped him down the leg side off Obed McCoy. However, Chahal struck again in his final over, dismissing Heinrich Klaasen for 26 off 12.

As the match entered its final stages, the tension was palpable. The Sunrisers needed 41 runs from the final two overs, and Glenn Phillips stepped up to the plate. In for Harry Brook, Phillips blasted three sixes and a four to reduce the target to 19 runs off eight balls.

However, Phillips fell on the next ball, leaving the Sunrisers needing 17 runs from the final over with Abdul Samad on strike. Samad was nearly caught twice in two balls, first dropped by Obed McCoy at short third and then hitting a six just over Joe Root’s fingertips at long-on.

The Sunrisers needed 5 runs off the final ball, and Samad couldn’t get under the good Yorker by Sandeep Sharma. Rajasthan Royals had defended the total somehow. Just as they started to celebrate, a twist in the game arrived. The ball was a no ball and Sandeep had to bowl a free hit with 4 runs to defend.

Samad got under the ball and hit a straight six to win the game for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

It was an impossible victory for the Sunrisers.
