Prithvi Shaw expressed his lack of concern regarding the thoughts of the Indian selectors. On Wednesday, August 9, the talented right-handed batsman showcased his skills in the English One-Day Cup by achieving the sixth-highest individual score ever recorded in List A cricket.
While representing Northamptonshire, Shaw displayed an extraordinary performance against Somerset at the County Ground. He showcased his prowess by scoring an impressive 244 runs off just 153 balls. This exceptional innings included a remarkable count of 28 fours and 11 sixes, allowing the Steelbacks to achieve a total of 415 for the loss of eight wickets within the span of 50
Despite not representing India for over two years, since July 2021, Shaw remains unconcerned about his chances of being selected. Instead, he focuses on enjoying his time with Northants.
“Experience is definitely the main goal for me. I’m not really worried about what the Indian selectors might be thinking, but rather I just want to make the most of my time here and enjoy being with the players and support staff. Northamptonshire has given me this amazing opportunity and they’re taking great care of me. I’m truly loving every moment.” Shaw expressed in an interview.
Thanks to a solid performance from Shaw, Northants secured an impressive 87-run victory over Somerset. After scoring 34 and 26 in his previous two matches, Shaw finally delivered a substantial contribution in the third game.
“The sun was shining brightly, creating a beautiful day reminiscent of Indian weather. It felt really promising. When I didn’t get out despite an inside edge, I knew luck was on my side. Sometimes, you just need that stroke of luck, and today was definitely my day. From that moment on, I had confidence and didn’t let anything hold me back,” Shaw expressed.
In February 2021, Shaw achieved a remarkable feat during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match. Playing for Mumbai against Puducherry, he scored an incredible 227 runs off just 152 balls. This outstanding performance represented his highest score in List A cricket until he surpassed it on Wednesday.
“I was honestly thinking about my highest score, which is 227. I mentioned it to Whitey [Whiteman] when he was there. But overall, it was a great team effort. I always prioritize winning matches for the team, putting their needs ahead of mine. If scoring like this can contribute to our team’s success, then I should keep it up,” he further explained.
Prithvi Shaw delivered an exceptional performance, smashing 28 fours and 11 sixes on his way to a remarkable score of 244. The only higher individual effort recorded in England List A cricket is Alistair Brown’s astounding knock of 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan at the Oval in 2002.
Despite facing a formidable target, Somerset put up a strong fight but ultimately lost the game by 87 runs. Their top-order batsmen, including Andrew Umeed (77 off 67), Sean Dickson (52 off 48), and Lewis Goldsworthy (47 off 62), contributed runs to the team’s total. Curtis Campher also played an impressive innings, scoring a quick-fire 49 off just 24 balls. However, Tom Taylor and Luke Proctor combined to take five wickets and restrict Somerset to a final score of 328 all out in the 46th over.

Shaw managed to score only 106 runs from eight innings for Delhi Capitals, which puts him out of contention for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
