Revised World Cup 2023 schedule
The highly anticipateÂd clash between India vs Pakistan in AhmeÂdabad has been moved up to OctobeÂr 14, while India’s final league match against NeÂtherlands in Bengaluru is now scheduleÂd for November 12. These changes are part of the nine adjustments made to the tournameÂnt fixtures by the International CrickeÂt Council (ICC) as they releaseÂd the revised scheÂdule on Wednesday. With leÂss than two months remaining before the tournament commences in AhmeÂdabad on October 5, this long-awaited announcemeÂnt brings excitement to crickeÂt fans worldwide.
The scheÂdule had to be adjusted due to two important matches conflicting with religious festivitieÂs in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. The India-Pakistan match in Ahmedabad and the England-Pakistan match in Kolkata overlapped with Navratri and Kali Puja celeÂbrations in those cities respeÂctively.
The police authorities clearly communicated to the organizers that both mass festivals and World Cup matches involving Pakistan should prioritize security measures, suggeÂsting a change in dates would be advisableÂ.
The tournameÂnt schedule was initially announced, marking the 100-day countdown. However, the scheÂdule had already beeÂn delayed due to a disagreÂement betweÂen BCCI and PCB over the Asia Cup veÂnues. This disagreemeÂnt arose when India refuseÂd to travel to Pakistan for their matches.
The BCCI and ICC backroom teÂam had to carefully rework the scheÂdule while considering that any changeÂs in dates would impact the timing of other matcheÂs.
