ICC has released a revised World Cup 2023 schedule: India vs Pakistan has been rescheduled for October 14, along with 8 other matches

Revised World Cup 2023 schedule

The highly anticipated clash between India vs Pakistan in Ahmedabad has been moved up to October 14, while India’s final league match against Netherlands in Bengaluru is now scheduled for November 12. These changes are part of the nine adjustments made to the tournament fixtures by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as they released the revised schedule on Wednesday. With less than two months remaining before the tournament commences in Ahmedabad on October 5, this long-awaited announcement brings excitement to cricket fans worldwide.

The schedule had to be adjusted due to two important matches conflicting with religious festivities in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. The India-Pakistan match in Ahmedabad and the England-Pakistan match in Kolkata overlapped with Navratri and Kali Puja celebrations in those cities respectively.

The police authorities clearly communicated to the organizers that both mass festivals and World Cup matches involving Pakistan should prioritize security measures, suggesting a change in dates would be advisable.

The tournament schedule was initially announced, marking the 100-day countdown. However, the schedule had already been delayed due to a disagreement between BCCI and PCB over the Asia Cup venues. This disagreement arose when India refused to travel to Pakistan for their matches.

The BCCI and ICC backroom team had to carefully rework the schedule while considering that any changes in dates would impact the timing of other matches.

Rescheduled World Cup 2023 matches

October 10: England vs Bangladesh – Dharamsala – 10:30 AM

October 14: India vs Pakistan – Ahmedabad – 2:00 PM

October 15: England vs Afghanistan – Delhi – 2:00 PM

November 11: Australia vs Bangladesh – Pune – 10:30 AM

November 11: England vs Pakistan – Kolkata – 2:00 PM

November 12: India vs Netherlands – Bengaluru – 2:00 PM

Aside from the highly-anticipated India-Pakistan match, adjustments were also made to eight other World Cup games. For instance, India’s final group stage match against the Netherlands in Bengaluru will now be held on November 12 instead of November 11.

The change in the India-Pakistan match schedule has resulted in a rescheduling of England’s game against Afghanistan in Delhi. Originally scheduled for Saturday, October 14, the match will now take place on Sunday, October 15.

The game schedule for England and Bangladesh underwent the most alterations. Three of their matches were either shifted or changed from a day-night format to a day game.

Due to scheduling adjustments, the England vs. Afghanistan cricket match in Delhi will be postponed from Saturday, October 14th to Sunday, October 15th.

The Bangladesh vs New Zealand match, originally planned for a day match on October 14 in Chennai, has been rescheduled to October 13 and will now be played as a day-night contest.

One minor adjustment to the tournament schedule involves the timing of England’s match against Bangladesh in Dharamsala. Originally scheduled as a day-night fixture, it will now take place during the day with a 10:30 AM start time (IST).

In the final stage of the league, there are three schedule changes involving double-header matches. The Sunday matches originally set for November 12 have been moved up to Saturday, November 11. The first match will be Australia vs Pakistan in Pune at 10:30 AM, followed by England vs Pakistan in Kolkata at 02:00 PM.

The big match between Australia and South Africa in Lucknow has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 12, instead of Friday, October 13. It was moved forward by 24 hours.

Bengaluru will be hosting five matches, including the India vs. Netherlands match. The stadium will also host two of Pakistan’s World Cup matches against Australia and New Zealand. Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, will begin their ICC World Cup campaign against five-time champions Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8th.

The venue, timings, and dates of the World Cup semi-finals and final remain unchanged. The first semi-final will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15, followed by the second semi-final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16. Lastly, the final will be held in Ahmedabad on November 19.

The BCCI, on Wednesday, announced that there will be a change in the dates for nine ICC World Cup fixtures scheduled later this year.

The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad, initially planned for October 15th, has now been rescheduled to the day before.

Therefore, the match between England and Afghanistan in Delhi, originally planned for October 14, will now take place on October 15.

There have been some adjustments to the original schedule of cricket matches. The game between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Hyderabad will now take place on October 10 instead of October 12, and the match between South Africa and Australia in Lucknow has been moved from October 13 to October 12.

The New Zealand vs Bangladesh match in Chennai has been rescheduled from October 14 to October 13. Additionally, England’s game against Bangladesh in Dharamsala will now be played as a day match on October 10, rather than being a day-night affair.

The double-header cricket matches originally set for November 12 have been rescheduled. England vs Pakistan, which was supposed to take place in Kolkata, and Australia vs Bangladesh in Pune will now be played on November 11. On the other hand, India’s final league game against Netherlands in Bengaluru will be held on November 12 instead of November 11.
