The ODI series will begin on September 8 at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff as part of New Zealand’s tour of England. With back-to-back victories in the just concluded T20Is, the visitors recovered and leveled the series 2-2.
In the absence of Kane Williamson, who has been recovering from a knee injury, Tom Latham will be the Blackcaps’ captain. Trent Boult has returned to the visitors’ lineup for this series, although Ben Stokes and the rest of England’s strongest team will participate.
In an effort to help England get ready for the 2018 World Cup in India, Stokes will play his first ODI since coming out of retirement. Gus Atkinson, a right-arm medium-fast bowler who is certain to be in the World Cup squad, is another significant addition to this group.
With players like Henry Nicholls and Tom Latham in the middle order, New Zealand’s bowling attack appears to be fairly potent.
Before confirming the 15-man squad for the competition, England should take advantage of this excellent opportunity to practice for the World Cup and test their players. One to keep an eye on is Gus Atkinson.
The quick bowler, who has yet to play in an ODI, impressed in the most recent T20Is, taking 6 wickets in 2 games. Another player to keep an eye out for in this group is Ben Stokes, who played his final ODI in July of 2022.
Stokes’ selection for the World Cup team has drawn some criticism, but he has been in excellent form in the longer version of the game and should use this series to silence his detractors.
Sam Curran and David Willey, two bowling all-rounders, will be essential in the bottom order and will try to take advantage of every opportunity to play in this series.
Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, and Liam Livingstone give England a powerful starting lineup for this series. Despite not being in the best of form, Dawid Malan is an important player in the middle order. In 18 ODIs, he has scored 769 runs at an average of 54.93.
Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, and Adil Rashid will be the major players directing the bowling assault.
England’s Predicted XI:
Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, and Gus Atkinson
Following an amazing recovery in the T20Is, a confident New Zealand team will be ready for the England test. In the middle order for New Zealand, Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls are the players to keep an eye on.
These two are seasoned athletes who have been crucial to the Blackcaps’ success in the longer game format. They have the capacity to form alliances and play longer innings.
Along with three batting all-rounders, NZ’s squad also includes Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips, and other players. It will be interesting to see if they deploy all three in the starting XI.
Rachin Ravindra can bowl a few overs, but Mitchell Santner, who has consistently been a finisher in the lower order, is more likely to be chosen.
Daryl Mitchell will undoubtedly bat in the middle order and will be crucial to the team’s success. NZ would prefer to test Kyle Jamieson in this series despite the fact that he has only been in 8 ODIs but has excelled in Test matches.
Boult, Southee, and Ferguson, a bowling three, will direct the speed attack and are likely to play in the World Cup. Matt Henry, Jamieson, or Adam Milne will compete for the position of fourth bowler.
New Zealand Predicted XI:
Tom Latham (c & wk), Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway, Finn Allen, Will Young, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Sothee, Trent Boult, Matt Henry, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner
The pitch will favor fast bowlers, and the new ball will move about a bit. On this track, hitters must wait their turn before breaking out and scoring significantly. On the day of the game, Cardiff will see largely cloudy weather with a high temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.
The first ODI of the series will take place at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens. The average first innings score in this match is 220 runs, however England’s 386 for 6 against Bangladesh in the 2019 World Cup is the highest total ever. Given that 304 runs is the greatest score ever chased on this field, we believe a total of 280+ runs would be extremely competitive.
Toss: To Bowl
In the 30 ODI games held at this location, teams who bowl first have won 18 of them. To take early wickets and put themselves in the lead in the game, both teams will support their bowling attacks. Many big hitters down the order give the hosts depth in their batting lineup, allowing them to chase down any total.
England wil Win this Match
Prior to the World Cup, both teams are eager to gauge the strength of their rosters. On paper, England appears to be more stronger, and they also have the advantage of playing at home in this encounter. New Zealand, on the other hand, has the perfect kind of bowlers for these circumstances and can pose a serious threat to the dominant English outfit.
However, given their lineup’s depth, general strength, experience, and familiarity with home conditions, England will start as the match prediction’s favorites.
