Key takeaways from matchweek 3

Mumbai City FC and Kerala Blasters FC’s thrilling battle on Sunday marked the conclusion of an exciting third matchweek of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023–24 season. The fans were enthralled by the spectacular moments that were there in every game.

Three-match matchweek began with Bengaluru FC’s stunning comeback victory over East Bengal FC at the Kanteerava.

Rei Tachikawa’s magnificent free kick enabled Jamshedpur FC defeat Hyderabad FC and give the Red Miners their first three points of the year.

In the third game of this matchweek, Punjab FC drew with NorthEast United FC and earned their first points of the year.

In what turned out to be a stunning high-stakes encounter with many of opportunities at both ends, FC Goa defeated Odisha FC by a slim margin.

In Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Mohun Bagan Super Giant easily defeated Chennaiyin FC thanks to another dominant display.

Lalengmawia Ralte, a midfielder for Mumbai City FC, scored the game-winning goal in Kerala Blasters FC’s defeat.

Javi Hernandez scored a record-setting goal

At the Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru FC defeated East Bengal FC, a formidable opponent from Kolkata, in an incredible comeback victory. East Bengal FC winger Naorem Mahesh gave the Red and Gold the early advantage with a spectacular solo goal. However, the Blues were able to defeat the Red and Gold Brigade thanks to a penalty goal by Sunil Chhetri in the 21st minute and an overhead kick by Javi Hernandez.

Javi Hernandez, a Spanish midfielder for Bengaluru FC, was active all over the field throughout the contest. He coordinated well with the Bengaluru FC forwards and made an effort to set up goals for his group. He has one of the best senses of space in the league, and he demonstrated it in this game as well.

He completed the comeback against the Red and Golds in the 72nd minute of the game with a beautiful overhead goal to round off his excellent effort.

Rei Tachikawa thanks Jamshedpur FC supporters

Rei Tachikawa, a midfielder for Jamshedpur FC, scored an incredible free-kick goal in the 76th minute to help his team defeat Hyderabad FC.

Hyderabad FC had a strong start to the game, producing a ton of opportunities on the other end of the field. However, they lost focus for a brief time and gave up a pointless free kick on the outskirts of their box, which Rei Tachikawa converted to give the Red Miners the lead.

During the first few minutes of the game, the Japanese midfielder found himself in advantageous positions on the field. Tachikawa was at the heart of Jamshedpur FC’s aggressive play as they attempted to score on the counter-attack. The primary issues with Jamshedpur FC’s performance throughout the first half were poor judgments made at vital times in the game. Tachikawa made a few important errors of his own in the last third. He did, however, bounce back strongly in the second half and finished his performance with an incredible free-kick goal.

On this particular day, Jamshedpur FC supporters stole the show as they energized the Furnace and the Japanese gave the crowded stadium the ideal present by scoring the dramatic winner. This might be the beginning of something amazing and will undoubtedly boost Jamshedpur FC.

Parthib Gogoi achieves a first

Parthib Gogoi became the first member of NorthEast United FC to score in each of the season’s first three games and four straight contests.

In Delhi, Punjab FC and NorthEast United FC tied 1-1. With Greek defender Dimitrios Chatziisaisas on the team, Punjab FC’s defense improved against the Highlanders and they played much better overall. His acquisition made the defense more stable and caused problems for the NorthEast United FC forwards. However, Parthib Gogoi’s spectacular goal startled Punjab FC.

With a goal by Melroy Assisi off a set-piece corner kick routine, they recovered in the second half.

Through excellent link-up play between the lines, Parthib consistently harassed the Punjab FC defense throughout the whole game. He frequently formed connections with the other NorthEast United FC forwards and troubled Punjab FC’s defense. What a year it is for him!

FC Goa’s next big thing?

In a thrilling match between FC Goa and Odisha FC, the Gaurs prevailed thanks to a goal scored in stoppage time by youthful left-back Jay Gupta in the 96th minute.

Mourtada Fall and Noah Sadaoui each scored twice, but Gupta’s goal ultimately proved to be the deciding factor between the two teams.

Sadaoui put forth a lot of effort the entire game and was in the center of every FC Goa attack. He frequently troubled the right back for Odisha FC with his deft runs and teamwork with the other FC Goa. He frequently slipped past the Odisha FC defense and was a key player in FC Goa’s victory.

The day’s highlight, though, was Gupta’s attempt at curling, which propelled the child into the spotlight. The league may now have a new hope for the future thanks to the Gaurs, who are known for generating some of the best young Indian talent.

The X-factor of Mohun Bagan Super Giant is Dimitri Petratos

Dimi Petratos, Jason Cummings, and Manvir Singh scored for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, who defeated Chennaiyin FC 3-1 to keep their perfect ISL 2023–24 record intact.

Having a great game, Petratos connected with the Mohun Bagan Super Giant forwards nicely to score. The Chennaiyin FC press, which had been attempting to impede the Mariners’ offensive patterns throughout the game, was defeated by some exquisite football played by the Mariners. Petratos continually found passing lanes and scored goals throughout the game by placing himself in scoring lanes. He eventually scored the game’s opening goal for the Green and Maroon Brigade as a result of his efforts.

The Australian severely derailed Chennaiyin FC’s strategies for slowing down the Mariners’ attack, and Juan Ferrando is finding that his false nine role is a very potent weapon.

The fox in the box is Jorge Pereyra Diaz

At the Mumbai Football Arena, Mumbai City FC defeated Kerala Blasters in the third matchweek’s penultimate contest. Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Apuia Ralte’s goals were sufficient to defeat a capable Kerala Blasters FC team. Apuia scored the game-winning goal for Kerala Blasters FC in the 66th minute after Danish Farooq had tied the score in the 57th minute.

Diaz maintained his excellent goal-scoring form throughout the game, automatically finding himself in scoring positions. His positioning and shrewd passes in the final third contribute to Mumbai City FC’s offense working well. Mumbai City FC likes to use the breadth of the field to expose gaps in the defense of the opponent, and Diaz was essential to the game’s success of their assault. His goal was crucial in helping Mumbai City FC maintain control of the match.
