Rohit Sharma Ruled Out IND vs BAN

IND vs BAN – Rohit Sharma Ruled Out! After missing the first Test, the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, has been ruled out of the upcoming second & final Test match against Bangladesh at Dhaka. The decision was taken as he continues nursing a thumb injury, he suffered during the ODI series against the same opponent.

In the second ODI match of the series, Rohit Sharma injured his thumb while fielding in the slips. He didn’t play in the second and final ODI of the three-match. As he was immediately flown home with the hope of having him in the team for at least the second Test match. Initial scans, taken after the incident, showed a dislocation that needed a few stitches.

He is currently recuperating in Mumbai and seems to be suffering a slight stiffness. It is reported that he would have managed to bat the risk but was still involved while fielding, so the medical team and the team management ruled him out with the fear that his injury could get more severe if he had been given the green signal to play. Moreover, he is likely to go under a medical assessment next week and won’t be travelling to the Dhaka

Another reason behind excluding him is the number of matches the Indian team is scheduled to play in the next two months or more. Team India is expected to play six ODIs, and an exact number of T20I matches next month against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home, the squad for those series will be announced later. After the above-mentioned white-ball series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home, they’ll host Australia for a Four-Test match series at home, starting from February 9.

It isn’t confirmed yet whether the new selection panel will be formed before the squad announcement for Team Blue’s home season because, as of today, no interviews have been taken.

Without Rohit Sharma, opening batsman KL Rahul will continue leading Team India, with Cheteshwar Pujara as vice-captain. Opening batsman Rohit Sharma’s absence in the second Test means the young opening batsman will get to play the second Test along with KL Rahul after he made his maiden Test century in Chattogram. It’s worth mentioning that they have the services available of reserve opener in the squad, Abhimanyu Easwaran, but as things stand, there is no chance we’ll get to see the latter player playing yet.

After winning the first Test on the first session of the fifth day by a margin of 188 runs, the Indian team arrived in Dhaka yesterday morning and is expected to arrange two training sessions, one on Tuesday and then on Wednesday, before both teams take on each other in the second and final Test match at the Shere-Bangla Stadium, scheduled to start from December 22 till 26.

It’s worth mentioning that Rohit Sharma is not the only injured player right now as many other cricketers didn’t make it to the squad, like Fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Ravindra Jadeja, who are out of the team with back, shoulder and knee injuries, respectively.

What is Test Match?

Test cricket is a form of first-class cricket played at international level between teams representing full member countries of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

A match consists of four innings (two per team) and is scheduled to last for up to five days. In the past, some Test matches had no time limit and were called Timeless Tests. The term “test match” was originally coined in 1861–62 but in a different context.

Test cricket did not become an officially recognised format until the 1890s, but many international matches since 1877 have been retrospectively awarded Test status. The first such match took place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in March 1877 between teams which were then known as a Combined Australian XI and James Lillywhite’s XI, the latter a team of visiting English professionals.

Matches between Australia and England were first called “test matches” in 1892. The first definitive list of retrospective Tests was written by South Australian journalist Clarence P. Moody two years later and, by the end of the century, had gained acceptance.

There are now twelve full ICC member countries playing Test cricket. Day/night Tests were permitted by the ICC in 2012 and the first day/night match was between Australia and New Zealand at the Adelaide Oval in November 2015.
