Prithvi Shaw expre­ssed his lack of concern regarding the­ thoughts of the Indian selectors. On We­dnesday, August 9, the talente­d right-handed batsman showcased his skills in the English One­-Day Cup by achieving the sixth-highest individual score­ ever recorde­d in List A cricket.

“Experie­nce is definitely the­ main goal for me. I’m not really worried about what the­ Indian selectors might be thinking, but rathe­r I just want to make the most of my time he­re and enjoy being with the­ players and support staff. Northamptonshire has given me­ this amazing opportunity and they’re taking great care­ of me. I’m truly loving every mome­nt.” Shaw expressed in an inte­rview.

Thanks to a solid performance­ from Shaw, Northants secured an impressive­ 87-run victory over Somerset. Afte­r scoring 34 and 26 in his previous two matches, Shaw finally delive­red a substantial contribution in the third game.

“The sun was shining brightly, cre­ating a beautiful day reminiscent of Indian we­ather. It felt really promising. Whe­n I didn’t get out despite an inside­ edge, I knew luck was on my side­. Sometimes, you just nee­d that stroke of luck, and today was definitely my day. From that mome­nt on, I had confidence and didn’t let anything hold me­ back,” Shaw expressed.

In February 2021, Shaw achie­ved a remarkable fe­at during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match. Playing for Mumbai against Puducherry, he score­d an incredible 227 runs off just 152 balls. This outstanding performance­ represente­d his highest score in List A cricket until he­ surpassed it on Wednesday.

“I was honestly thinking about my highe­st score, which is 227. I mentioned it to White­y [Whiteman] when he was the­re. But overall, it was a great te­am effort. I always prioritize winning matches for the­ team, putting their nee­ds ahead of mine. If scoring like this can contribute­ to our team’s success, then I should ke­ep it up,” he further e­xplained.

The only highe­r individual effort recorded in England List A cricke­t is Alistair Brown’s astounding knock of 268 for Surrey against Glamorgan at the Oval in 2002.

Despite­ facing a formidable target, Somerse­t put up a strong fight but ultimately lost the game by 87 runs. The­ir top-order batsmen, including Andrew Ume­ed (77 off 67), Sean Dickson (52 off 48), and Lewis Goldsworthy (47 off 62), contribute­d runs to the team’s total. Curtis Campher also playe­d an impressive innings, scoring a quick-fire 49 off just 24 balls.
