Australia had won the toss and chosen to bat first in the Adelaide Test Match. The first innings of the Australians was a rewarding one as they scored a mountain of runs, on the back of big hundreds from Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head.
Labuschagne scored his third consecutive century of the series and made an impressive 163 from 305 balls. On the other hand, Travis Head batted quickly and sensibly to manage 175 runs from 219 balls. Australia declared at a score of 511/7 in the first innings.
West Indies had starts in their innings but none of their batters managed to get going. Tagenarine Chanderpaul scored 47 runs while Anderson Philips managed 34 runs. Other than them, Roston Chase was the only guy who crossed thirties.
The whole west indies batting line-up was bundled out for 214 runs in 70 overs. Mitchell Starc and Michael Neser picked up two wickets while the spinner Nathan Lyon had three.
Australia secured a massive 297-run lead and could easily force the follow on. However, they chose to bat again as they wanted West Indies to bat last.
In their second innings, the Australians batted quickly in an attempt to set up a big target and leave enough time in the game to dismiss the West Indies in their last innings.
All the Australian batters for the starts but none of them crossed 50. Khawaja was the top scorer with 45 runs while Travis Head remained not out on 38 from 27 balls. Australia declared at 199/6, setting West Indies an impossible 497 runs to chase.
West Indies had a terrible start to their chase as Scott Boland broke their back with three wickets in one over. West Indies were reduced to 15/3 in the sixth over of their chase. Wickets kept on falling as none of the West Indian batters stood up to the pace of the Australians.
West Indies got all out for only 77 runs as Australia won the match by 419 runs. All three fast bowlers picked up three wickets each while Nathan Lyon picked up the remining one.

Test cricket is a form of first-class cricket played at international level between teams representing full member countries of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
A match consists of four innings (two per team) and is scheduled to last for up to five days. In the past, some Test matches had no time limit and were called Timeless Tests. The term “test match” was originally coined in 1861–62 but in a different context.
