IPL 2023 auction list never fail to impress you. Players go under the hammer and earn millions of USDs. IPL auction is probably the fastest way to become a millionaire. The same pattern repeated this year as the IPL 2023 auction offered big money to all the players.
Generally, huge sums of money are thrown at the mega auctions, when teams reassemble their squads. However, the trend reversed in this year’s mini auction as teams spent heavily from their limited purses.
Kane Williamson was the first pick of the day as Gujrat Titans picked him up for his base price of INR 2 Crore.

The bank was broken at the second pick of the auction as Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad jostled for the young English Batsman Harry Brooks. Rajasthan Royals had a total remaining purse of 13 Crore INR and they were willing to pay it all to Brooks at the second pick of the day. Eventually, Sunrisers picked him up at 13.25 crore INR. With that, he became the most expensive player in the history of IPL mini auctions.
That was not the end of money heist as the allrounders Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, and Cameron Green became the most expensive players in the history of IPL auctions.
Sam Curran had entered the IPL auction at the base price of 2 crore INR. Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow had a bidding war for the English allrounder. Eventually, PBKS purchased him for a massive 18.50 crore INR. With that, Curran became the biggest buy in the history of IPL. He is the highest paid cricketer in the history of the Indian Premier League.

The promising young and tall Australian allrounder Cameron Green also attracted big bucks at the IPL auction. Green had entered the auction with the base price of 2 crore INR. Soon, the price shot past 10 crore INR. Eventually, Mumbai Indians picked him up for a whooping 17.5 crore Indian Rupees. With that price bracket, he became the second most expensive buy in the history of the IPL auction (below Sam Curran’s 18.5 Crore INR)
England’s test captain and star all rounder Ben Stokes entered the auction after the two biggest buys in the history of IPL. In no time, his price also shot past 10 crore Rupees. He was eventually picked up by MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings for 16.5 crore INR. This made him the third most expensive bid of this year’s auction. Interestingly, he equalled the previous record of highest paid auction pick in the history of IPL with 16.5 crore INR.
Stokes also offers the captaincy option to the franchise and will most probably succeed MS DHONI as the captain of the CSK.
Ben Stokes is going to be the new Thala for Chennai.
The West Indian hard-hitting batter Nicholas Pooran was picked up by LSG for 16 crore INR. Many are calling it an overambitious pick. It would be interesting to see how he fares in the long run.
Details of full squads will be available soon.
