Younger players who have already created a name for themselves on the domestic circuit, such as Qasim Akram, Ihsanullah, and Tayyab Tahir, make up the majority of the 21-man team. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar Zaman were not be included in the list of probables. It is understood that Shaheen Shah Afridi is yet to recover from the knee injury that he sustained in the ICC World T20 2022’s final. His rehabilitation work is in progress and once he recovers from the injury, he will be included in the Pakistan line-up.
Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar Zaman are expected to be totally fit for the Pakistan Super League the following year. Both players play for Lahore Qalandar in the Pakistan Super League. Only Zahid Mehmood has been dropped from Pakistan’s most recent ODI assignment, a three-match series in the Netherlands back in August.
Initially, the three-match One-Day International series against New Zealand was scheduled to take place in September of last year, but the visitors postponed their limited-overs tour just before the first ODI began, citing security concerns. The team had arrived in the country but refused to play after a fake mail circulated on social media.
Now, the three one day matches are scheduled to take place in Karachi on January 9, 11, and 13.
