Australia had won the toss on the fast and pacy wicket of Perth and chosen to bat first. It was expected to be an interesting fight between the Australia’s top order and West Indies’ fast bowlers. The West Indian bowlers made good use of the bounce in the wicket and kept Australian batsmen in check.

Jayden Seales had drawn the first blood as David Warner chopped one back onto his stumps for 5 runs only. After losing the first wicket for a team total of 9, Usman Khwaja and Marnus Labuschagne built the innings and stabilized it. At lunch, Australia was 72/1 in 29 overs.

Batting became a lot easier in the post lunch sessions as the Australians were cruising at one point. Both Labuschagne and Khawaja got to fifties as the 100-run partnership was brough up between the two. Australia got to their 150 in the 51st over. Shortly after that, Usman Khwaja was dismissed as he edged one to the keeper. Kyle Mayers was the bowler who dismissed him.

Steve Smith joined Marnus Labuschagne in the middle and the two had put on an unbeaten 142 runs together. Smith was not out on 59 while Labuschagne scored another test 100. He was not out for 154 runs at the end of play. Australia will resume their innings from 293/2 on Thursday morning.
