BCCI Announcement: Led by Chetan Sharma, the Indian sacked selection committee has played the hangman role for the entire Indian selection staff.
According to the information from Inside Sport, following the instructions provided by Big-Wigs of the BCCI, the Indian cricket board broke the news to 6 Indian players that their presence will no longer be required in the team for playing in the T20 format anymore.
The BCCI has concluded on the decision that the team will no longer see the face of multiple top players including the former captain Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, R. Ashwin, Mohd Shami, Dinesh Karthik & Virat Kholi.
This news was hurtful for Indian cricket fans as they have emotional sentiments attached to these big names. They are angered by the BCCI’s decision to not include them in the T20 team. A source from the BCCI confirmed the statement given by the board.
It was stated that the Indian cricket board has developed plans for the 2024 T20 world cup and added that their top 35-36 players have not been included in those plans to play T20 cricket matches for the Indian cricket team.
It was further stated that the players are not fit for the team’s long-term plans and the specific player has already been informed of the board’s decision.
Players such as R. Ashwin, Mohd Shami, Dinesh Karthik, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are permanently ruled out from playing in T20. Although Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kholi are still part of the team’s plans, there is little possibility of including them in matches played in the T20 format.
The Indian cricket board has already informed both Virat and Rohit that the board has concluded the decision to move on from them. Moreover, KL Rahul has also been informed that he is also not part of their plans in T20 matches.
Although Rishabh Pant is not part of the team for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka, he will remain under consideration for inclusion in the team matches in the T20 world cup 2024.
Moreover, the BCCI has also made some highlighting changes to the teams for their series against Sri Lanka. Rishabh Pant has been dropped from playing in both formats and KL Rahul is no longer India’s vice-captain in ODI matches.
Hardik Pandeya has been appointed as the new vice-captain and Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar have been called up for playing the t20 matches replacing many big names like Virat Kholi, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma.
The former Indian captain Rohit Sharma had joined the BCCI selection committee meeting via a video call conference and the news of his dropping out was broken to him.
One of the reasons that the selectors had to land upon this decision was that Rohit Sharma has been struggling against fitness for some time now. This factor can also become a problem for him in terms of his selection in the ODI format.
Although he has been named captain of the ODI team, the final decision is yet to be made and the BCCI committee will evaluate his fitness level before landing upon a decision.
Right now, Rohit Sharma is dealing with recovering from a thumb that he suffered while playing against Bangladesh. It has seriously hindered his road to fitness. India has an upcoming series against Australia. The board is taking precautions and Rohit Sharma will only be permitted to play if the medical team is 100% of his recovery from the injury.
