India Cricket Team Analysis Against Sri Lanka: The team selection for the Indian T20 and the fifty-over format brought great shocks to Indian cricket fans all over the world. Fans had to witness several unexpected inclusions in both teams and many big names were not a part of the teams.
An announcement was given by the board of control for cricket in India regarding the selection of players for the t20 squad and the ODI squad ahead of the team’s home clash against rivals Sri Lanka. The Indian cricket team is scheduled to play against the Islander on multiple occasions on India’s home grounds.
The series will consist of three 20-over matches in addition to multiple matches of the fifty-over format. All the matches are scheduled to take place across different venues across India starting from January 3rd. However, this was not all that was included in this accouchement.
Indian fans were shocked to witness several big names were not a part of the teams and were replaced by new young players. Match-winning players such as former captain Virat Kholi, Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and KL Rahul have been asked to take a rest and not included in the series against Sri Lanka.
It came as a surprise to fans across India as these are the most important players who have to most vital role in any match that India plays. Although these players have not been included in the team’s plans for t20 matches, some of them are still to represent India in the 50-over format.
Rishabh Pant however has been asked to sit out for the series in both formats. Crucial all-rounder Hardik Pandeya has been named as the new captain of the renewed T20 squad where he wished to lead the team and many young players that it comprises to victory.
The Indian T20 squad is to see many new faces including Mukesh Kumar and Shivam Mavi, who have been given a call-up to represent the team against Sri Lanka.
All-rounder Hardik Pandeya has been named captain for the t20 squad and the vice-captain for the ODI. The board wishes to keep Pandeya as the leader for both formats in the long term after former captain Rohit Sharma announces his retirement from representing India, on an international level.
The series against Sri Lanka will mark Hardik Pandeya’s second time as captain. He led the Indian side against the squad of New Zealand in November. Moreover, Suryakumar Yadav is also to be appointed as Hardik Pandey’s deputy for the t20 matches against Sri Lanka.
In addition to that, the exclusion of veteran players from the series means that the Indian cricket board is directing its focus on building a team for the 2024 world cup. It is mainly for the ODI squad however the same will be done keeping in mind the t20 squad.
With new faces on board the t20 squad, including promising names such as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Mavi, Mukesh Kumar, and Umran Malik, India has focused on including newly discovered talent from the IPL. Therefore, it is wrong to say that the transition of the Indian squad has begun.
Rohit Sharma who missed the team clash against Bangladesh due to an injury on his thumb is set to make his return to captain the Indian team in the ODI matches against Sri Lanka. Other high-profile players such as Virat Kholi and KL Rahul who have not been included in t20 are to put more focus on ODI matches.
