BAN vs IRE 2nd T20I Match Report – Bangladesh Scores 200+ Runs in 2nd Consecutive Match: On March 29, 2023, Bangladesh and Ireland faced each other in the 2nd T20I of the Ireland tour of Bangladesh. The match was played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The game was shortened to 17 overs per side due to rain, but it didn’t stop Bangladesh from dominating Ireland by 77 runs to clinch the T20I series.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Litton Das and Rony Talukdar provided Bangladesh with a record-breaking start. The duo added 124 runs in just 9.2 overs, which is the biggest opening stand for Bangladesh in T20Is.

They also scored the fastest team fifty and individual fifty in T20Is. Litton’s fifty was the fastest by a Bangladeshi, beating Mohammad Ashraful’s record of a 20-ball fifty in 2007.

Litton was in destructive form, smashing 83 runs off just 41 balls. He hit ten fours and three sixes in his innings. His three sixes were struck over point, long-off and square-leg.

Seven of his ten fours came behind square on either side of the wicket. He played only eight dot balls in his innings, which is the lowest by a Bangladeshi batter in a 75-plus knock.

Rony scored 44 runs off 23 balls before he was dismissed by Ben White in the 10th over. Rony hit three fours and two sixes in his innings. The Bangladesh openers broke several team records, as they smacked the Ireland bowlers around the park.

Bangladesh raced to their 100 in just 7.1 overs, which is the second-fastest team century opening stand for Bangladesh. After the dismissal of Rony, Shakib Al Hasan joined Litton at the crease. Shakib slammed Harry Tector for a four and a six in the 13th over, which helped Bangladesh’s run-rate soar again. Bangladesh also reached their fastest 150 team total in T20Is.

Hridoy, who came in to bat after Litton’s dismissal, played a quick cameo of 21 runs off just 7 balls. He hit two sixes in his innings, with one of them being a backhanded shot over long-on off Graham Hume’s bowling.

In the end, Bangladesh posted a mammoth total of 202/3 in their 17 overs. Ben White was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland, as he picked up two wickets for 28 runs in his three overs.

Ireland started their chase in a shaky manner, losing two quick wickets in the second over. Taskin Ahmed removed both Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien in the same over to put Bangladesh on top. Ireland never really recovered from the early blows, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Curtis Campher was the lone warrior for Ireland, as he scored a half-century off just 28 balls. He hit four fours and three sixes in his innings. However, he didn’t get much support from the other end, as Ireland kept losing wickets. Campher was the only batsman to score more than 20 runs in the innings.

Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, as he picked up five wickets for 22 runs in his four overs. Shakib’s second T20I five-for also took him past Tim Southee to become the highest wicket-taker in the format. Taskin Ahmed also bowled well, picking up three wickets for 27 runs in his four overs.

Shakib UL Hasan became the highest wicket taker in the history of T20 International Cricket. Ireland was bowled out for 125 runs in their 17 overs, losing the match and the series as well.
