Miller not upset after not being selected as the captain for South Africa in T201

After it was announced that the veteran batter for the South African cricket team will not be the captain of the side, Miller stated that he completely supported the selection of Aiden Markram who was selected instead of him. Miller stated that he has no issue and completely supports the decision of the board and is hopeful to play his part in supporting the team where needed. He vows to be there for the team on and off the pitch wherever it is necessary even though he hoped that he would be the one who tops the list when it came to selection for the job.

David miller stated before South Africa’s second ODI against the West Indies side that he would be lying if he said that he was not interested in the role to lead the team and further said; that he has great experiences with Protease and assured that he is not in any way bitter or upset for not being selected as captain. The veteran further added that he hopes to put ahead his best foot forward for the team and to support Aiden Markram as the captain of the South African cricket team.

Up till today, David Miller has been involved in international cricket for 12 years and has played a crucial role in some of the most important matches for South Africa. He had the joy to be the captain of his international side with bouts against Pakistan, England, and Ireland. In other leagues, he was the face of different teams including Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Barbados Royals, and Paarl Royal. He was a great fit when appointed for the job, leading the different teams. With his expertise and experience, he always did a great job when it came to instructing his team and defining goals for other members.

Apart from the above facts and perceptions about David Miller, he was not selected to lead the team. Instead, Aiden Markram, the former captain of the South African under-19 squad and the current captain for the side of SA20 champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape; was thought to be a much better fit when compared to Miller. Many perceived that this meant that Miller would be eventually appointed as the vice-captain of the team however, this was not the case, as no announcement for the selection of the vice-captain is made.

Miller further added on about Aiden Markram and said that he is a great captain and that the player is very mature and calm. He also added that Aiden will do a great job, especially after the appointment of the new white ball coach Rob Walter who will turn out to be a great combination that will benefit the players and the team as a whole. It will benefit the team in future endeavors and build up the squad for future matches.

However, we cannot ignore the facts about David Millers’ experience over 12 years of their professional cricket career and that his decision would be more beneficial and more suitable for the team when we speak about the middle order of the team. When David was not available for the team in their ODI opener against West Indies, the team failed to complete the case just by 43 runs. Several newcomers in the team, unfortunately, could not stay on strike for long enough to make a difference or provide support to Bavuma who was doing his best to get the match together.

David Miller has a great desire to aid new and upcoming players in deciding on the field. He stated that he is glad to see younger players getting more involved in international cricket and that it is just a matter of time before the new guys put on a performance.
