Virat Kohli ODI Centuries Take India Home, His 73rd International Centuries: India’s main stars were back in the side after resting in the T20I series. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul returned to the side as India started their preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Indian batters batted brilliantly to set up the match for India. The bowlers also did well to restrict Sri Lanka. Dasun Shanaka was the only performer for Sri Lanka as they lost the match by 67 runs.

Dasun Shanaka won the toss in the first ODI and decided to bowl first on an excellent track at Guwahati.

India’s regular Captain Rohit Sharma made a return to the side. Not just that, a number of regular Indian players made a return to the side. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul came back to the side after resting in the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Another surprising decision was the omission of Ishan Kishan from the Indian side. Shubman Gill opened with Rohit Sharma as Ishan Kishan sat out. It was an interesting move, considering that Ishan Kishan had scored a thumping double century in the last ODI match that he played.
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah missed out on the team due to his injury concerns. Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, and Umran Malik were the three seamers in the Indian XI.
Virat Kohli ODI Centuries Take India Home – As it happened:
Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started well for India in the first ODI match against Sri Lanka. The two openers added 143 runs for the first wicket as both the batters scored half centuries. Shubman Gill made 70 runs while Rohit Sharma scored 83 runs in 67 balls.
Virat Kohli walked out to bat for India at the number three position. Kohli looked in supreme touch throughout his innings. He had his fair share of luck as Sri Lanka dropped two catches of Virat Kohli.
Kohli paced the innings nicely to score his 73rd International Centuries. This was his 45th International ODI century. Virat Kohli made 113 runs in only 87 balls to take India to 373/7 in 50 overs.
Virat Kohli ODI Centuries Take India Home – Sri Lanka managed only 306 runs in their 50 overs:
Sri Lanka’s chase started in a disappointing fashion as they lost 2 wickets in the first 6 overs. Pathum Nissanka made 72 runs in 80 balls to give some momentum to the side. Dhananjaya de Silva also made 47 runs to inject some momentum into the innings.
However, the only real fight came from Dasun Shanaka who scored a fighting century for his side. He made 108 runs in 88 balls.
Sri Lanka fell short by 67 runs. The second ODI match between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled to take place on 12th January, 2022.
